Arazu was established pre-Covid by Peter Harris. Its core DNA is to serve the best interests of local key workers and middle-income earners who want to own their own home. An additional benefit will be to substantially lower rent for tenants when the owner is a housing association. 

As a guiding principle, the benchmark for success is that the first rung of the housing ladder should be within the financial reach of a qualified nurse, teacher, rural worker, emergency services worker, professional, small business owner, technical or tradesperson in their late 20s/early 30s, especially for those who do not have access to the Bank of Mum and Dad or the Bank of Grandma and Grandad. When that person’s career has progressed well, they should be able to buy a home of sufficient size which can accommodate a partner and two children when they are in their mid-thirties. 

Arazu’s mission has been to create a range of new ideas and strategies on how to significantly reduce the cost of home ownership while improving the quality of build and place. The two most dominant terms of reference have been not to distort prices in the existing housing market and not to cost the taxpayer any money.

Practitioners from across all sectors of the housing industry have provided reality-checking and technical context. These service providers work for corporates, lenders, professional firms, trade associations and charities who work in the housing sector.
